Workshops at Art Central
Workshops are offered at Art Central through various galleries and studios. Most workshops take place at Art Central, though some take place off site. Please contact the individual galleries or studios for more information on workshops that interest you.
Sip, Drip & Draw Workshop: Drip, splash and brush on coffee, tea, wine, beets, parsley and various other edible products to create different staining effects. Outline and accentuate the stains and drawing tools such as charcoal and pen. Instruction, staining materials, art tools and specialty papers will all be supplied. This workshop can be composed to fit within one hour or up to three hours. Cost is $100 per hour for up to 6 participants. Each additional participant pays an additional $20.
Maya Gohill Painting Workshop: Maya Gohill’s painting workshops are quickly becoming one of corporate Calgary’s most popular team building events. Team building provides the opportunity for colleagues to bond and strengthen their working relationships, while adding to a company’s overall productivity. As an added bonus, your team brings a new piece of artwork - created by you! - back to the office.
Workshops are suitable for smaller teams (5-10 people) or larger teams (up to 40 people). These team building painting workshops are a fantastic way of bringing people together in a fun, safe and creative environment. Workshops can be customized for your group and catering options are available. Maya Gohill, workshop facilitator, holds a Masters in Fine Arts (Illustration) and teaches at the Alberta College of Art + Design. Pricing includes all materials, instruction, digital photographs and the delivery of the final product to your offices.
Painting, Drawing & Media Workshops: Studio Todorovic offers both group and private art lessons for adults. Facilities can accommodate up to 12 people during evenings and weekends at Art Central. Group, corporate and private lessons available in the following areas of study: Acrylic, oil or watercolour painting;Acrylic & mixed media;Drawing;New media;creative software development.
Encaustic Workshop: This intensive workshop is designed to cover the basic principals of encaustic techniques. Once an artist understands the fundamentals of heating and manipulating surfaces, there are limitless possibilities to the versatility of encaustic painting.
Encaustic art is made of beeswax, often tree resin, and pigments melted together on a heated palette and then applied in layers to a substrate. The word encaustic originates from the Greek word ekasutikos, to burn in. Encaustic is best made workable with heat, not a solvent.

Jewellery Making Workshop: To A T Artist’s Studio and Gallery is a place for artists to develop and display their creative work. It was envisioned by Connie Gibbens, a self-taught artist who believes that every serious artist deserves an outlet to gain exposure and recognition for his or her creativity. Join Connie for one of her Jewellery Making Workshops and walk away with a one-of-a-kind piece made by you! Cost: $75 Facilitator Fee + $30/person for supplies. 1-4 people.
UPPERCASE Gallery, Books & Papergoods
Button & Mirror Workshop: UPPERCASE can create a fun workshop for small groups of 4-8 people. Using found papers, letraset and typewriters, make fashionable 1-inch button pins and 3-inch badges and pocket mirrors. Group workshops are $150 and include supplies to make 10 buttons, a badge and two mirrors per person. Additional buttons are $1, 3-inch badges are $2.50 and mirrors are $7. You can bring your own papers, digital photos or drawings, and we have supplies here as well. Ages 10 and up, or younger children with their parents. 1.5 - 2 hours.
